Lori Baruth is Associate Professor of Clarinet at Morehead State University, where she joined the faculty in 2007. She received her DMA degree from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati (2010), and MM (2004), BM (1999), and BME (1999) degrees from The Ohio State University. Her teachers have included Richie Hawley, Steve Cohen, James Pyne, and Dr. Donald McGinnis. Dr. Baruth has performed as principal clarinet with the Huntington, Westerville, Cave Run, and Central Ohio Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Louisville Ballet (2nd and bass), Heisey Wind Ensemble, and Opera Theater and Music Festival of Lucca Orchestra (Italy). Internationally, she has taught at the 2011 Festival Nacional de Música at the Escola de Música e Artes Cênicas da UFG in Goiañia, Brazil. She has performed in numerous music festivals, including the Marshall University Festival of New Music (2018, 2014, 2013), Grandin Vocal Chamber Music Festival, and the MusicX Contemporary Music Festival. She is a co-founder of Trifecta!, and also performs with the Baird Winds woodwind quintet. Trifecta! has performed at the International Double Reed Society's 2017 Conference, International Clarinet Association’s 2016 and 2014 ClarinetFest, the ICA Mid-America Clarinet Festival held at The Ohio State University in 2014, the New Music Festival at Marshall University (2013), KMTA’s annual conference (2013), and the Kentucky Music Educator’s Association State Conference in 2015. In March 2019, they will perform at the Women in Music Conference in Columbus, MS. Trifecta! released its debut album in March 2015. In 2012, Dr. Baruth was a finalist in the ICA’s Research Competition and her doctoral research was published in The Clarinet, the professional journal of the International Clarinet Association, in March 2014. Each summer, Dr. Baruth serves as clarinet faculty at the Morehead State University Summer Arts Academy. Dr. Baruth is a Yamaha Performing Artist, performing on CSGIIH clarinets, and a D'Addario Artist, performing on the Reserve X0 mouthpiece and Classic Reserve reeds in strength 4.

An avid performer of contemporary music, pianist Chialing Hsieh is devoted to promoting new piano solo and chamber works. She has premiered about forty compositions and has performed

on the premiere recordings of ten works by contemporary composers. Chialing has been a featured pianist on seven CD’s for the Centaur, Innova, Enharmonic, and Ballpark record labels. Her recording “Odyssey” with violist Hsiaopei Lee features new music by American female composers. Recent recordings include “Cumulus Accumulation” with Trifecta! Trio, featuring new music for clarinet, bassoon, and piano, and Canfield’s “Quintet after Schumann” with Oasis saxophone quartet. Chialing has received several grants to promote new American music, including an Artist Enrichment Grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women. A sought after collaborative pianist, Chialing has performed with members of the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Lyric Opera Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, and the symphony orchestras of Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, Minnesota, and Memphis. She has performed with the faculty of Julliard, Northwestern University, New England Conservatory, University of Cincinnati, and Arizona State University. Chialing has performed recitals in Europe, Asia, and throughout the United States. She performs regularly at universities and conferences for CMS, MTNA, NATS, SCI, North American Saxophone Alliance, National Flute Society, International Clarinet Association, International Double Reed Society, International Viola Congress, World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, and the Southeastern Composers’ League. Chialing Hsieh joins the faculty of Northwestern State University in 2016 as Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano. Prior to this appointment, she was the Instructor of Music/Faculty Accompanist at Morehead State University from 2004 to 2016. In the summer, she is the piano instructor at the Lutheran Summer Music Festival and Academy and the Sounds of Summer Institute.

 

She earned her bachelor’s degree from the National Taipei University of the Arts, and M.M. and D.M.A. in piano performance at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. Her principal teachers include Richard Morris, Sandra Rivers, and Tsai Chai-Hsio.

David Oyen is Professor of Bassoon and Music Theory at Morehead State University. He holds a B.M. degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, an Orchestral Music Diploma from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik, Karlsruhe, Germany; and the M.M and D.M.A degrees in Bassoon Performance from The Ohio State University. He was principal bassoonist of the Springfield (OH) Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Columbus (OH) Symphony Orchestra, the Roanoke Symphony. the Lexington Philharmonic, the West Virginia Symphony, the Kentucky Center Chamber Players, the Movére Wind Quintet, the Seneca Chamber Orchestra, and the Baird Winds. Dr. Oyen has also performed at several International Double Reed Society Conferences. Dr. Oyen is currently Immediate Past President of the Kentucky Music Teachers Association (KMTA). In addition to his teaching duties at Morehead State, Dr. Oyen serves on the faculty of the Morehead State University Summer Arts Academy.
